Muslim spiritual leaders could be denounced publicly by their own community as part of a campaign to expose imams whose silence on domestic abuse is leading to women being burnt, lashed and raped in the name of Islam.

This would be considered a definite move in the right direction...if women are allowed to seek help and denounce the abuse...all religion is in the hands of the interrpetur and has led to such evil.

But isn't that exactly what is preached by such clerics? One Muslim cleric even wrote a book where he gave a guide on how to beat women in great details. Muslim men are chauvinists and they won't let that happen.

And who is going to do the purging? Will the Muslim community stop attending the sermons of those clerics who turn blind eye to abuse of women or even encourage them? This ain't gonna happen anytime soon.

Islam must reform if it want to stop from sliding further from the esteem of the rest of the world.
That reform should come from within the Muslim societies around the world who might be different on the exterior from one another but alike in the core.
They would have to be the one to ask themselves what do they really want.
